Landscapes from Thaipusam
February 5, 2023. Penang, Malaysia.
Approximately 1.5 million devotees flooded the streets of Jalan Kebun Bunga and climbed the steps of Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple to say their prayers and celebrate Thaipusam after two years of the pandemic.
Some carried vases of milk while others went under a trancelike state and carried kavadis and pierced their bodies with bells and silver skewers to gain Lord Murugan’s blessing.
